Three astronauts returned safely to Earth after spending almost six months in space on Tuesday, NASA said.
Commander. Mike Fossum and Flight Engineers Sergei Volkov and Satoshi Furukawa landed their spacecraft safely on Friday in the central steppes of Kazakhstan early in the morning. They had been at the International Space Station since June 9.
To our surprise the aircraft landed on its side, which was not unexpected, NASA said, adding that Fossum smiled.
Before leaving the station, Fossum turned over command to Dan Burbank. Burbank, along with Flight Engineers Anatoly Ivanishin and Anton Shkaplerov, took off for the space station from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on November 14.
The mission is Burbank's third visit to the space station, but the first for Ivanishin and Shkaplerov.
